Here Ill show you my 33rd Regiment of Foot. They have been standing around here and collecting dust because I didn’t find time and motivation to take the pictures of them. Therefore Ill have to post for you today as I also finished another Regiment.
The 33rd Regiment of Foot, also known as the 1st Yorkshire West Riding Regiment, played a significant role in the Battle of Waterloo on June 18, 1815. During the battle, the 33rd Regiment was part of the British Second Brigade, commanded by Major-General Sir John Lambert. The regiment was initially held in reserve, but was called upon to support the hard-pressed Allied center, where they played a key role in repelling repeated French cavalry charges.
One of the most famous actions of the 33rd Regiment during the battle was the defense of the Hougoumont farm, which was a key position on the Allied right flank. The farm was fiercely defended by the British Foot Guards and the 33rd Regiment, who managed to hold off a determined French attack, despite being outnumbered and outgunned. The farm’s gates were locked and the battle inside was intense, the 33rd Regiment played a crucial role in preventing the French from breaching the farm’s defenses.
Despite heavy casualties, the 33rd Regiment continued to fight bravely throughout the day, helping to hold the line against the relentless French assaults. Their steadfastness and valor played a critical role in the eventual defeat of the French army and the securing of victory for the Allied forces.
The 33rd Regiment of Foot played an instrumental role in the Battle of Waterloo, and their bravery and sacrifice will always be remembered as a pivotal moment in history.
And as always here the pictures
